(this is a flash fiction of under 300 words)
Every night around midnight, when I'm lying in bed with my husband, I hear a word.
Nutella!
My eyes snap open and I look around, nothing. My husband is snoring, sound asleep. As I'm about to rest my head back on the pillow, I hear it again.
Nutella!
"What?" I ask out loud sitting straight up, turning to my husband and shaking him awake.
"Did you say something?"
"What? No! I'm sleeping!" He turns his body around and pulls the blankets over him. I scrutinize the room but all I see is darkness. I lay back down.
Nutella! Nutella! Nutella!
"That's it! I can't stand it anymore!" I get up and smack my husband off the bed. He falls flat on the floor while I turn on the lights, desperately searching for a sign of where this sound might come from but there is nothing. I can hear my husband cursing in the bedroom so I go in the kitchen. He's pretty mad. I've been doing this for the past few days now.
Nutella!
"Here it is again!" I open the cupboards and I look at each shelf, but there isn't anything out of the ordinary. I see the Nutella jar.
"Nah, it couldn't be. Since when do jars talk?" My stomach growls as my eyes are glued to the creamy chocolate spread.
"Might as well make myself a snack!" I sigh. The sound stops until the next night. My husband sleeps on the sofa now.
