Henry sat on the couch, reading his newspaper. Sarah brought him a steamy cup of espresso and kissed his cheek.
"Good morning dear!" She walked toward the window and opened the egg white transparent blind.
"Henry, there is a pigeon protesting on our porch."
"What?"
"There is a pigeon, on our front porch, with a tiny sign saying 'Free the chicken!' " Sarah repeated. Henry stood up and walked toward the window.
"What are you talking about?" He looked out into the beautiful sunny day. Sure enough, a grey-feathered ball strutted around his cement porch. Nested under its wing was a tiny Popsicle stick with a white paper sign. Just as Sarah said, it read: "Free the chicken!"
"What the hell is going on?" Henry yelled. He rushed outside to the front porch and caught the bird before it could escape. An elastic band held the sign on its tiny body. He gazed up around his yard for any culprit.
"I know you are out there. This isn't funny. Don't make me come and get you!" He screamed impatiently. He heard giggling and snickers from the bushes. Boys jumped out, laughing and took a picture of Henry holding the pigeon. They ran away. Henry growled. He removed the sign from the bird and threw it on the ground.
"Wretched brats." He hissed.He deposited the pigeon on the stoop and went back to his coffee. What else was he going to do? Call the police and tell them he was harassed by a pigeon? "Honestly!" He exclaimed shaking his head and taking a sip of his coffee.
