Pen to paper... I've been writing for a long time, and every time I write, I feel like I'm adding something new to my style. If I'm lucky, I'll someday add some worthwhile fiction to the world at large (or, at least, to whomever will still be reading in the future).

Expression is one of the two main reasons I write. I love turns of phrase; how words sound together; unusual metaphors; schemes and tropes; ideas and artistry; punctuation; and I kinda like lists, too. I don't usually write exclusively for myself, but rather, to express something that interests me and, consequently, to share my knowledge, my ideas, and my creativity with others.

The other main reason I love writing is due to its opportunity to tell stories and craft intriguing characters to readers. Reading, at its core, should be enjoyable, and without good stories and characters, writing will always fall short of potential.

To paraphrase Hemingway, hard writing leads to easy reading. There's a nice parallel with life and love, too. Life doesn't have to be hard, nor do we need to endure hardships, but it's the effort, above all, that we put into it that ultimately rewards us with cherished memories and people.

Like a breath, most things in life are ephemeral. Even if we write about the big ideas and essential concepts, no matter how universal, they are likely to be transient. We ought to find something more lasting, and lucky us if it's here.
